Don Davis Attacks Buckhout on Issues Where His Own Record Falls Short

Edenton, NC - Don Davis and his big money DC allies are once again distorting Col. Laurie Buckhout’s record… and his. Don Davis had a chance in Congress to lower fuel prices, make prescription drugs more affordable, and protect our rural hospitals, and he failed to do so.

“Watching the latest ads from Don Davis and his DC allies, you may think I’m Eastern North Carolina’s current member of Congress,” said Buckhout. “But it’s Don Davis that’s failing our communities in Washington, DC. On four separate occasions, Don Davis has voted FOR killing America’s fuel reserves, raising prescription drug costs, and killing our rural hospitals.”

He put his party first when he should have been putting Eastern North Carolina first.

Gas Prices

In the 118th Congress, Davis voted against H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, legislation designed to increase domestic energy production, expand energy infrastructure, and cut through permitting delays. He also voted against H.R. 21, the Strategic Production Response Act, which would have required a plan to increase oil and gas production under oil and gas leases on Federal lands.

In the 119th Congress, Davis voted against the Working Families Tax Cuts, legislation that unleashes domestic oil and gas production, refills the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and ends Democrats' war on American energy.

Now, Davis wants to attack Buckhout over gas prices after voting against bills meant to increase American energy production.

Prescription Drug Costs

Davis also voted against H.R. 6703, the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act. The bill would have required more transparency from pharmacy benefit managers and helped expose the rebates, fees, and other behind-the-scenes costs that can drive up prescription drug prices. This would result in lowering premiums for Americans by more than 11% and saving tax payers $30 billion in the process.

Davis is attacking Buckhout over prescription drug costs after voting against a bill aimed at lowering those costs and cracking down on the hidden fees that keep drug prices high.

Rural Hospitals

On rural healthcare, Davis voted against the Working Families Tax Cuts, which included the Rural Health Transformation Program and $50 billion for rural healthcare over five years. This funding is used to help states expand access to care, strengthen the rural workforce, improve technology and infrastructure, and support rural providers.

Additionally, in 2020, Don Davis supported Governor Roy Cooper’s veto of the budget that would have secured funds for ECU’s Brody School of Medicine.

Davis represents one of the most rural districts in North Carolina, yet he voted against legislation that included a major investment in rural healthcare.

“Don Davis can attack me all he wants, but he cannot run away from his own votes,” said Buckhout. “Eastern North Carolinians deserve to know the full record, not just the version Davis puts in a campaign commercial.”
